Cherrydale College Campus

by mkavec666

After seeing reports of "cryptid sightings" in and around Cherrydale College, we prepared to go investigate. The night before our initial scope-out of the area, a post on the Cherrydale community chatroom revealed that the "cryptid sightings" reported to us were in fact just a member of the faculty on a walk.

Official Verdict: DEBUNKED

The Basement Expedition

by c.ibarra

When I found out there was a creepy old basement in our apartment complex, I knew we had to investigate. I've had many a supernatural experience in basements under residential centers—strange whispers and noises, something brushing against me, our equipment going haywire. I've also had much less supernatural experiences in basements, like finding nothing but some old, beat up appliances, and also our radon and CO detectors going off and having to contact the building owners about it. (Remember, always check for gas leaks or mold infestations if you think you're haunted!)

This basement didn't seem particularly nefarious, but I don't think it's the most normal either. Once Micah (our resident mkavec666) and I had finished unpacking and getting ourselves settled in, we went down to the basement to investigate.

First impressions weren't promising. It was mildewy, and thankfully none of our hazard detectors found much of anything. (Our Geiger counter did pick up a strange bit of radiation, but nothing of a particularly concerning level)

So, we busted out the spirit box, and let me tell you, I've never heard spirits more agitated. Lots of distorted voices, overlapping each other, also some crying and shouting from what I heard. For the skeptics: I know that a spirit box can give you false positives because of radio wave interference, but this was….not that. This was nothing like I've ever heard before, and both of us were extremely shocked at the intensity of what we got.

So next, we set up some equipment. Infrared cameras and night vision cameras, an emf and temperature sensing pod, and set up our laser grid once we mapped out where the strongest spirit box responses were.

A thing about ghost hunting is that it takes time. We usually spend 6-8 hours in a location, even in small spaces like a basement. A lot of what we get is a whole lot of nothing, and a whole lot of waiting for there to be less nothing.

This wasn't any different, and weirdly so. Not much happened EMF wise. We didn't get any EVP responses to questions. Something popped up briefly on the SLS camera but it wasn't there for long. With all the spirit box stuff that happened, it felt…weird, for things to be so quiet. And the longer we were there, the more it felt like that quietness kind of…swallowed us. We've sat in plenty of dark rooms waiting for something to happen, and this time it felt really different. Like we were being smothered almost. And I keep having these weird dreams…it probably doesn't mean anything, but it's worth noting for posterity.

The verdict: something's up with this basement. I don't know if it's supernatural or what, but something is up. We should probably investigate again, but the weirdness was….I don't know. We'll get back to it later.

Official Verdict Pending Further Investigation

Pewter Park

by mkavec666

After reports of "strange will-o-the-wisps" and a howling noise in and around Pewter Park, we conducted an investigation.

To begin, we started with research. The park has no recorded history of anomalous or dubious activity that may create ghost or paranormal activity--no murders, deaths, battles, etc. However, "no recorded history" doesn't always mean a damn, especially in smaller towns where anomalous events may be covered up. As we were both new to Cherrydale at the time, we weren't sure whether the town culture was like that. Clay also noted that ghosts may frequent a place they spent a lot of time in, and the park appears quite popular

On the night of our investigation, we struggled to find a quiet enough place where our equipment wasn't interfered with, at least until around 2am. But before then, we saw lights matching the photos and description on the will-o-the-wisps. The lights turned out to be fireflies.

After 2am, we had nearly no activity, save for a few blips on the spirit box. All other evidence is inconclusive.

Initially, we did not hear any of the howling, but on a walk at a later date, heard it and determined it to be wind blowing through an oddly-shaped sculpture in the middle of the park. Preliminary analysis determined that the point of the statue was to make varying noises, based on wind velocity and direction.

Official Verdict: DEBUNKED, but sick as hell statue discovered.
